I receive a "Not Found" or "Page cannot be displayed" error message.
Answer
A "Not Found" error message is usually due to a Firewall blocking access to the ports that our Database and Proxy Servers use. This error could display as "Page not found", "404 Not Found", "Page cannot be displayed", or "Server Not Found" depending on your browser and settings.
If you are using personal firewall software, such as "BlackIce, Tiny, McAfee, Microsoft Internet Connection Firewall, or Norton Personal Firewall, you may need to configure your firewall as described below. Alternatively you can temporarily turn off your firewall, but we accept no responsibility for any attacks on your system while your firewall is inactive. Please refer to the documentation that came with your firewall application.
If you are behind a corporate or institutional firewall, you may need to contact your systems administrator with the port information listed in the table below. They can then configure the firewall to allow your computer to communicate with our servers on these ports.
Required Ports:
| PORT (TCP) | HOST | ADDRESS | SERVICE |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8331 | lib6.wsulibs.wsu.edu | 134.121.5.234 | Database lists and search functions |
| 8888 | lib6.wsulibs.wsu.edu | 134.121.5.234 | Ejournal lists and search functions |
| 6443 | ntserver1.wsulibs.wsu.edu | 134.121.161.15 | SSL authentication |
| 2050 - 6000 | ntserver1.wsulibs.wsu.edu | 134.121.161.15 | Journals and Databases access |
Note that Windows XP Service Pack 2 enables Windows Firewall by default. See Microsoft's web pages for advice on how to troubleshoot Windows Firewall settings.
